DOLLY PARTON’S IMAGINATION LIBRARY PROGRAM TO CONTINUE AT BRENHAM LIBRARY
A library program started by the late Dolly Parton will continue at the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library in Brenham after her recent passing.
The Dollywood Foundation shared an email last week with its library partners regarding the Imagination Library, a program that gifts children across the world with books each month. In the email, the foundation says it remains committed to the children and families that it serves, adding, “Dolly didn’t build the Imagination Library to last for her lifetime. She built it to last for theirs.”
According to City of Brenham Librarian Tammy Murphy, the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library has been an Imagination Library partner along with the Fortnightly Club since 2019. Murphy says there are currently 130 Brenham children up to 4 years old who receive a book each month from the program.
The foundation pays half the cost, with the other half covered by the Brenham library through donations. Murphy says in recent months, the library has also been supported with its costs by the State of Texas, as approved in the last legislative session.
For anyone interested in donating to the Imagination Library program, Murphy says local donations given to the library directly go to the local children who are registered in the program. Some downtown businesses are also offering support toward the program. Donations may also be made on the foundation website, but they do include a processing fee.
