BRENHAM FD RESPONDS OVER WEEKEND TO MULTIPLE CRASH CALLS, FIRE AT FAIR
The Brenham Fire Department responded to 13 calls between Friday and early this (Monday) morning.
Just before 10:30 a.m. Friday, units responded to a report of a structure fire at the Washington County Expo, 1305 East Blue Bell Road. They were directed to a food vendor who had a propane tank that had fallen over, damaging the hoses and starting a fire. The fire was put out before firefighters arrived. They remained on scene, assisted with confirming the fire was out and investigated the reason for the fire. The propane tank that was damaged was removed from the area to let it vent, due to a damaged valve. All units returned to service, with minor damage to a single vendor.
A few minutes past 10:30 a.m., a gas leak was called in from South Day Street and Chauncy Street. Firefighters found a construction crew had cut a small gas line with an excavator. They monitored the area with gas monitors while the City of Brenham Gas Department stopped the gas leak. Southbound lanes were temporarily diverted while the leak was fixed.
Shortly after 9:45 p.m., Brenham units were dispatched for mutual aid with the Washington Volunteer Fire Department for a crash with entrapment, but they were cancelled prior to arrival, as the patient was able to self-extricate.
Close to 11:15 p.m., a crash was called in from Highway 105 and Blue Bell Road, in the parking lot of Circle K. The fire department found a minor crash and was advised by police that it could clear the call.
A few minutes after 10:15 a.m. Saturday, a crash with entrapment was reported from the 3000 block of Highway 290 East. While firefighters were enroute, a patient was able to self-extricate. The fire department found a two-vehicle crash off the highway. Personnel checked for injuries and hazards. Both patients were checked by EMS and were found to have minor injuries, but refused transport. DPS remained on scene after the fire department and EMS left to wait for wrecker services.
At 1 p.m., BFD members responded to a crash on South Day Street, in front of Jack in the Box. They found a minor two-vehicle crash that had moved into the parking lot of the restaurant. The fire department was released by police upon arrival.
Just past 2 p.m., units went out to Kruse Village, 1700 East Stone Street, for a fire alarm. They found the alarm was activated due to cooking and reset the alarm.
Around 3:45 p.m., a fire alarm was called in from a residence on Sycamore Street. The department found that the homeowner was having trouble with the smoke detectors, which were determined to be out of date. Firefighters installed a new smoke detector for the homeowner.
Approaching 1:30 a.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a crash in the 1100 block of East Main Street. They located a two-vehicle crash and checked for injuries and hazards. The vehicles had minor fluids leaking. The fire department assisted the wrecker with cleaning debris off the road.
At 2 a.m., another crash was reported at South Austin Street and Charles Lewis Street. BFD members found a single vehicle had hit an electric pole. The driver had no complaints of injuries, and there were no hazards present. The electric pole was not damaged. Firefighters were released by police.
A few minutes after 1:45 p.m., the fire department was dispatched to Kruse Village for a fire alarm. Nothing was showing from the exterior. Units found a bad detector and advised an employee to have maintenance replace the detector.
At 2:30 p.m., Brenham units responded along with the Prairie Hill Volunteer Fire Department for a report of a structure fire at a residence in the 3300 block of Reagan Beth Lane. They found light smoke in the garage area. Firefighters saw no fire extension into the attic and ventilated the home.
Nearing 5:45 a.m. today, a fire alarm was called in from a home in the 600 block of West Third Street. Upon finding nothing showing from the outside of the home, units replaced the batteries in the smoke detectors.
