LIFETIME LEARNING BRENHAM TO HOST WASHINGTON CO. READ RECEPTION TUESDAY
Lifetime Learning Brenham invites the community to the 18th Annual Washington County READ event on Tuesday.
A free reception will be held at Unity Theatre in Brenham. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the program begins at 6 p.m.
Amanda Churchill, author of this year’s READ selection, “The Turtle House”, will be present to visit with guests and autograph copies of her book, which will be available for purchase. There will also be food, refreshments, and a dramatic reading of the book by Unity Theatre actors.
In “The Turtle House”, grandmother Mineko tells stories to her granddaughter Lia, and readers are transported between war-torn Japan and a small town in Texas, where Mineko was taken as a war bride. Homesick and heartsick, Mineko yearns for the turtle house of her youth, where she discovered turtles swimming in the lagoon of an abandoned house and met her first love, Akio.
Churchill lives in Texas and has a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from the University of North Texas. She was a Writers’ League of Texas fellow in 2021.
