The Blinn College men’s golf team finished 12th Monday and Tuesday at The Hrnciar, hosted by Cameron University at The Territory Golf & Country Club in Duncan, Oklahoma.
The Buccaneers carded team rounds of 298, 291 and 292 for a 54-hole total of 881. Blinn competed against a field of 15 teams and 80 golfers at the NCAA Division II tournament.
“The positives were that the team improved their scoring in rounds two and three,” Blinn head golf coach Gary Belt said. “We put ourselves out of contention early and couldn’t make up that many shots.”
Freshman Kai Tamez led the Buccaneers, tying for 38th individually at 3-over-par 72 after shooting rounds of 81, 67 and 71. Freshman Rex Flores finished one stroke behind Tamez with rounds of 68, 75 and 77.
“We made progress in improving our process and course management, leading to making more pars,” Belt added. “We must clean up the avoidable mistakes. I can see improvement. We’ll keep working on putting together better rounds.”
