WASHINGTON CO. TIME CAPSULE OPENING CEREMONY TUESDAY

The Washington County community is invited tomorrow (Tuesday) for the reveal of a possible piece of history and to become part of history, themselves.

The county will hold a time capsule opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the Washington County Expo Event Center.

Last month, the county shared that a large box had been found hidden behind one of the stones of the Washington County Courthouse.  The county says its contractor for the exterior courthouse restoration project, Phoenix1, uncovered what is believed to be a time capsule placed within the courthouse during its construction in 1939.

Tomorrow’s ceremony will include remarks about the history of the courthouse and the events surrounding its dedication.  Attendees will have the opportunity to sign a special commemorative document and take a community group photo, both of which will be preserved inside a new time capsule that will be placed back into the exterior of the courthouse.

The event is free and open to the public.
