AUSTIN COUNTY COMMISSIONERS LOOK AT JAIL REPAIRS

The Austin County Commissioners Court will continue the process toward repairing the county jail and sheriff’s office during their meeting Monday morning at 9.

Having already hired an architect for the project, Burns Architecture LLC, the Austin County Commissioners are now seeking a Construction Manager. Since discovering mold in the jail in April, it has been costing Austin County about $50,000 per month to house prisoners in Fort Bend County. Jailers have been booking inmates, taking photographs and doing intake from a temporary trailer, before transferring them to Fort Bend County.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the Commissioners will consider a one-time variance from subdivision regulations to subdivide 6 acres out of 11.85 acres on Pless Road in Precinct 3. They will discuss the county’s insurance program. And they will have a special proclamation about domestic violence awareness.

The Austin County Commissioner meet at 9 a.m. Monday in the courthouse in Bellville.
