SPECIAL OLYMPIC TORCH RUNNERS COMING BACK TO BRENHAM
The Torch Runners for the Texas Special Olympics are going to run through the streets of Brenham again Thursday morning.
The runners consist of numerous law enforcement agencies in the gulf coast area, including Brenham. Cpl. Chris Jackson says they always make a point of coming through Brenham and this year they will make that point again. He says it is an important stop on their way to Arlington for the games this Saturday.
Jackson says the law enforcement officers will begin arriving in Brenham on Wednesday. They will have an invitation only dinner to raise money for the Special Olympics. That’s one reason the torch runners always make a Brenham stop, to get some Blue Bell ice cream and a generous donation.
The Special Olympics were organized by Eunice Kennedy Schriver to support the needs of the developmentally challenged. Her older sister, Rosemary was developmentally disabled.
