DeANDRE HOPKINS PLEDGES GAME CHECK TO 7-YEAR OLD’S FUNERAL COST

Houston Texans All-Star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins says he will dedicate his $29,000 pay check from Saturday’s playoff game with Indianapolis to pay for the funeral of Jazmine Barnes—the 7-year old girl who was killed last Sunday in a drive-by shooting.
The three-time Pro Bowl receiver said Thursday, “On Saturday, I will be playing in your honor, Jazmine.”
Hopkins also said he would join in the effort to bring Barnes' killer to justice, pledging to civil rights activist Shaun King; County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez; and Mayor Sylvester Turner to help find Barnes' killer. A reward has been offered for any information leading to an arrest.
The 7-year old girl was killed when a man in a pickup truck pulled up next to Barnes' mother's car and started firing. Jazmine's mother and three sisters were injured in the seemingly random attack.
"I have 5-year-old daughter. That could have been anybody in that position," Hopkins said. "Or anybody in the city."
"What I can do, that's nothing, that won't bring back a person," Hopkins said Thursday. "I'm not trying to make it out about me or anything like that. It's the least I could do."
Services for Jazmine are Tuesday. Afterward, mourners will release purple balloons in her memory.
The Texans play the Indianapolis Colts in a wild-card game Saturday at 3:35 on KWHI and FM 101.7.
