BUSY WEEKEND FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Brenham Fire Department had a busy weekend which extended to this (Monday) morning.
Saturday afternoon, after 5 p.m., the department was dispatched to the 400 block of Highway 290 West for a hazmat incident. Units found that a truck was leaking fuel, and used dry absorbent on the spill.
The owner of the truck had called a wrecker before firefighters made location. Once the wrecker arrived, the fire department cleared the scene.
Later Saturday, just past 11 p.m., units were called out to McNeese Street and Santa Fe Avenue, to reports of someone burning railroad ties. When they arrived, they found a small fire that was burning three railroad ties. Members used tank water to extinguish the fire, and returned to service.
Just after 5:15 a.m. this morning, firefighters were sent out to the post office at 309 North Market Street, for reports of a structure fire. Units arrived to find nothing on the outside, and found no signs of smoke or fire on the inside, but they did detect an electrical smell.
Members found a light ballast was causing the smell. They turned the breaker off and advised that a repairman come check it out.
Units were also sent out this morning around 4:45 a.m. to the 1800 block of Harrison Road, for an alarm which was cancelled enroute.
