AUTHORITIES WARN OF AREA SCAM

Area law enforcement is warning citizens of a phone scam that has resulted in several victims in area counties.
Brazos County Sheriff, Chris Kirk, says this latest fraud usually starts out with someone identifying themselves as someone working in local law enforcement.
Sheriff Kirk says the scammers then tell the victim they failed to register as a juror or have not complied with a warrant.
Kirk said these scammers want you to send in a cash card or other payment for a fine to avoid arrest or prosecution.
While it's becoming easier to identify a fraudulent call, Kirk says these can be tough to spot.
Authorities say if you get such a call, hang up and contact local police.
