AUSTIN COUNTY TO OFFSET DEFICIENCIES
Austin County commissioners voted unanimously to withhold payments to the county’s general fund, in order to offset deficiencies due to the Marcus Pena case.
Commissioners voted 4-0 to withhold over $162,000 of payments from the tax assessor/collector to the general fund.
County Judge Tim Lapham say it goes back to the Pena case. Lapham told the commissioners that the outside auditor ‘says we need to get this squared away…it rights off the amount.’
Pena was sentenced in 2018 to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $275,000 in restitution after he was found guilty on two counts.
