SENATE REDISTRICTING COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS CENTRAL TEXAS, SD 18 IN PUBLIC HEARING

The Texas Senate’s Special Committee on Redistricting is holding a virtual hearing tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss redistricting in Central Texas, which includes most of Senate District 18, governed by State Senator Lois Kolkhorst.

The regional hearing will be held tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. on www.senate.texas.gov.  The purpose of the hearing is to gather public input on the 2021 legislative redistricting process, and to provide the public an opportunity to share details about their local communities and information they believe is relevant to the process.

Each decade, the Texas Legislature draws new Congressional and Senate district boundaries based on the census.

Data from the census also determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives.  According to testimony offered before the redistricting committee Monday, Texas could gain three seats in Congress after adding more than 4 million people over the last 10 years.
