“They are so good defensively in practice and they play so hard, so it keeps us in a lot of games when we are struggling offensively,” head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “The Apaches are great athletes, and it was an up and down game. It is nice to finally beat Tyler, a team ranked ninth, because that’s one thing we couldn’t do last year even though we played them well.”

Ah’Jaya Johnson scored 11 points and Telisha Brown scored 10 to follow Atwood on offense.

“This game means a lot to my whole team and the seven sophomores who were here last year,” Atwood said. “We had two chances to beat Tyler last year and didn’t pull through, so we came into this game knowing we had an opportunity to win. We had a great practice yesterday, so I think that definitely translated into today’s game.”
