Buccaneers will compete for fifth place against No. 2 Odessa College
WEST PLAINS, Mo. — The seventh-ranked Blinn College volleyball team defeated fourth-ranked Utah State University Eastern in the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship, 3-1 (25-21, 14-25, 25-18, 25-22), on Friday.
With the win, the Buccaneers improve to 26-3 overall and will compete for fifth place against second-ranked Odessa College on Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m.
“I am really happy with the way the girls responded after a tough loss last night and how good they played today,” head coach Terry Gamble said.
Jayde Shelton put up a game-high 22 kills, while Chard’e Vanzandt recorded 12, Ashley Taylor tallied nine, and Essence Clerkley chipped in eight.
Loren Scott led the Buccaneers with 47 assists and two aces. Tatum Smidovec led the Buccaneers with 13 digs, while Lixai Perez Velez and Scott each had 11, and Emily Smajstrla tallied 10. Taylor led Blinn with four blocks assists, and Shelton and Scott each put up three.
Blinn opened the match with a 25-21 win, but Utah State Eastern tied it up with a 25-14 victory in the second set. The Buccaneers notched a 25-18 win in the third set to pull back ahead in the match, then sealed the game with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.
