BFD BATTLING GRASS FIRE

  

The Brenham Fire Department and fire fighters from the Salem Volunteer Fire Department are at the scene of a large grass fire.

The fire was reported just after 2:00 this afternoon in a pasture off New Wehdam Road near Highway 36 South.

Fire fighters at the scene estimate about 50-70 bales of hay are on fire.

Also at the scene are fire departments from Berlin, Salem, and Bleiberville.  Bellville also responded with four trucks.

According to authorities they cannot get enough water to the scene of the blaze, so they will dig a large hole and push the smoldering bales into the hole and cover them up.

No injuries have been reported, so far.
