The one and a half day training will be held Friday, April 7th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, April 8th from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Cannery Kitchen in Brenham. The training will be led by Alvin Migues, the Disaster Services Director for the Texas Division of Salvation Army.
Faith Mission CEO J.D. Young said the Washington County community has responded to numerous disaster events over the past decade, including hurricanes, the May 2016 flood, tornadoes and winter ice storms. He said each time, citizens “rallied in the hundreds to take care of our local people as well as our neighbors,” calling it “the spirit of Washington County.”
Upon successfully completing training, undergoing a background check and registering as a volunteer at www.disaster.salvationarmyusa.org, individuals will receive official credentials to volunteer with the Salvation Army on any disaster around the world.
The training is free and open to the public. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on Friday, and breakfast on Saturday.
Twenty-five slots are open for the training. Attendees are asked to RSVP no later than Friday, April 1st.
