BRENHAM MAIN STREET BOARD TO CONSIDER PARKLET MANUAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Discussion on the rules and regulations for parklets in downtown Brenham will continue on Monday when the Brenham Main Street Board holds its next meeting.
During work session, the board will hear a progress report on its recommendation to the Brenham City Council related to the proposed downtown parklet manual, and discuss changes to the manual that will be recommended to the council during its meeting on Thursday.
The manual contains the information needed for those who seek to develop a parklet in downtown. Action on the manual was tabled at the council’s meeting on April 20th after staff and councilmembers debated modifications to certain sections of the manual. The main point of contention was whether to allow or prohibit advertising at parklets, particularly on umbrellas.
Also on Monday, board members will consider support of a special exception request by Tony Ramirez of Top Floor Cars, Inc. for plans for 301 South Market Street, and potentially authorize the board chair to provide a letter of support. The business is seeking to move from its location at 2404 South Chappell Hill Street, and is looking for a variance from the city in order to perform renovations at the new site.
The board will also hear a report and update on possible improvements to Austin Alley, in addition to several other committee, tourism and staff reports. In addition, it will act upon a recommendation to recognize significant downtown renovation projects over the past year during National Preservation Month.
The board will meet Monday at 4 p.m. in Conference Room 2A at Brenham City Hall.
