CHAPPELL HILL VFD HOSTING 18TH FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department’s 18th Festival is happening this weekend.

Activities begin tonight (Friday) and continue through tomorrow (Saturday) at the Chappell Hill Fire Station on FM 1155.

Volunteer Fire Department Vice President Marcy Kmiec says the event contributes a great amount toward the fire department’s continued operation.

Teams participating in the barbecue cook-off and rib shootout began arriving Thursday night, and can continue checking in through tonight.  A total of 70 teams are taking part this year, the largest number the festival has ever had.

Tonight’s events include live music and a pitch tournament, with signup at 6:30 p.m. and play beginning at 7 p.m.  Entry into the pitch tournament is $20 per team.

After the chief cooks meeting at 8 a.m. tomorrow, turn-in times will be 10 a.m. for beans, 11 a.m. for chicken, 1 p.m. for ribs and 3 p.m. for brisket.  A silent auction will take place throughout the day, closing at 4:30 p.m.  That will be followed by a live auction beginning at 5:30 p.m.

There will also be a food trailer and vendor booths on site, as well as a drawing.

All proceeds from the event support the volunteer fire department.

Judges are still needed for the various cook-off categories.  To learn more about the event, or to volunteer, email marcykmiec@yahoo.com or call 979-251-4440.
