WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD TO VOTE ON REAPPRAISAL PLAN
The Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors will consider approving the 2023-24 reappraisal plan at its meeting tomorrow (Tuesday).
A resolution to adopt the plan will be voted on after a public hearing for the plan, which the board is required to develop biennially for the periodic reappraisal of all property in the appraisal district’s boundaries.
The plan lists certain activities that must take place when reappraisals are performed, including defining market areas, identifying and updating property characteristics affecting value in market areas, and applying conclusions from an appraisal model to individual properties.
The board will meet tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the appraisal district office at 1301 Niebuhr Street.
So another way to get more money out of our wallets!!
How about we start charging taxes based on what the property was purchased for? All these people paying big money for properties and they get a break on their taxes because of the appraisal yet the locals who have lived here take the hit because their values rise when property near by sells for ridiculous amounts. Stop taxing the locals out of their family land!!!
Local landowners selling land for ridiculous amounts is what is driving the high appraisals. They could lower their price or at least keep it flat, but they don’t because they want to get top dollar. It’s not the buyer, it’s the seller. I can’t blame them though.
It’s not the sellers. Of course they want top dollar but we have a problem here in Brenham and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon. When a decent home is listed for a price within reasonable thought, out of town ‘flippers’ are coming in,making cosmetic changes, and then selling the homes, sometimes almost double what they paid for the home, thus ‘artificially’ but effectively driving up the cost of housing. That’s the reason there are no affordable, decent, housing solutions in Washington County.
