BRENHAM MAN KILLED IN SHOOTING NEAR CHAPPELL HILL
A Brenham man is dead after a shooting near Chappell Hill, this morning.
The shooting occurred at Trails West Custom Gates in the 11,400 block of U.S. Highway 290 East just outside of Chappell Hill.
According to Sheriff Otto Hanak, 53-year old Curt Gregory Cowart died shortly after arriving by EMS ambulance at Scott & White-Brenham Hospital, after suffering a single gunshot wound to the chest.
According to Captain of Operations Claude Free, the victim and the shooter did know each other, but did not elaborate on their relationship. The shooting is being classified as a “domestic” incident.
Sheriff Hanak says Cowart had been issued a Criminal Trespass Warning back in 2012 and was ordered to stay off that property, but members of Cowart's family say that warning had been lifted.
The shooter, whose name has not been released, as well as several witnesses were taken to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to give statements.
The Texas Rangers, Brenham Police and Washington County District Attorney’s Office are all assisting in the investigation.
Sending prayers to the family …What a tragedy in Chappell Hill…That’s true wait on it
What is happen to brenham it is not safe anymore prayers to the family of the victim
I would not rush to judgement. I want to let the officials investigate. Just who is the victim may need to be defined.
I would also wait for investigators to provide the proof of “self defense” and/or proof to someone in “fear for their lives”.
