A Fayette County inmate is back behind bars after temporarily escaping custody on Thursday night.

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that around 8:10pm, 30-year-old Deshawn Villanueva from La Grange claimed he was feeling sick.

Staff at the county jail contacted the Fayette County EMS to have him evaluated.

After he was secured in restraints, the EMS took Villanueva to the Emergency Room at St. Mark’s Hospital in La Grange.

While at St. Mark’s and still restrained, Villanueva ran out of the ER doors.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, La Grange Police Department, and Texas DPS conducted a search of the area.

Officers took Villanueva back into custody near the hospital grounds about 20 minutes later. Sheriff Korenek said that there was no danger to the public during that time frame.

Villanueva was in custody at the Dan R. Beck Justice Center on a Failure to Appear warrant for a Forgery charge. The Fayette County Narcotics Unit had also arrested him for charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Resisting Arrest earlier in the week.

Villanueva has now been charged with Escape while Arrested, a 3rd Degree Felony.
