PLANS FOR NAVASOTA MLK DAY CELEBRATION ANNOUNCED

  

The Navasota Citywide Mission and the City of Navasota have announced plans for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade and Memorial Service.

Both the parade and the Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 14, beginning at 11am.

The parade will start at the intersection of Brosig and Washington Avenue.  They will then travel west on Washington Avenue, turn left onto South Lasalle Street, and end at the George Washington Carver Community Center on Spur 515.

Participation in the parade is free of charge and does not require registration.  Participants are asked to begin lining up on Brosig Avenue at 10am.

After the parade, a Memorial Service will be held to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Friendship Baptist Church located at 1111 South Lasalle Street in Navasota.

The keynote speaker will be Melanye Price, who is the Director for the Ruth J. Simmons Center for Race and Justice at Prairie View A&M University.

Local officials and area pastors will be present for the Memorial Service as well.
