Drugs and vaping has become a normal for teenagers these days. Officers legally cannot search unless they have cause and they have to catch them in the act at school. If they get busted at school what repercussions does the school give them? If they are caught vaping, what are the consequences from the school administrators? They do it at school because they know the consequences are nothing. Putting blame on one just isn’t fair, everyone has to work together. Times are trying right now for everyone. Just look at Burton, they have drug dogs come out and vaping sensors, apparently hasn’t stopped kids either because kids are still getting caught and failing drug tests. If school gave consequences then you have individuals saying how unruly that is. So it’s kinda of a loose loose situation. Schools are limited on punishment, sure they can suspend them or ISS, I get that, but we can’t blame the school for what the streets bring to the school. As a parent I have definitely been more involved in my child’s life and everyday struggles to help take the pressure off of them. I pray for this world right now.
Two students in a week, but it took a 17 year old being murdered in our community for anyone to get serious. A few Fridays ago there were 33 teachers not at work at BHS. Likely because many of them don’t feel safe nor supported. They know these things are going on. They report these things. Nothing happens. Hopefully now that our community knows these things are consistently present on our campuses (yes more than BHS) our administrators and our law enforcement officers will take these things more seriously so that we can stop small violations before things get bigger and bigger. Whether the murder is related to drugs, weapons, or any other illegal activity- taking small things seriously sets a precedent. BISD doesn’t have a great track record of setting precedent with discipline in the last decade. That’s for sure. Start taking these things more seriously.
A couple of Fridays ago there were 33 teachers out at BHS. A kid had to be murdered before anyone got serious about discipline and cracking down? This is the second arrest of a BHS student this week. I can guarantee that if admin and security take disciplining actions like these more seriously, teachers will show up and stick around because they, too, will safe and supported at school. The kids need it. The teachers need it. To keep our community safe, let’s take these things more seriously from now on.
Brenham ISD please invest in metal detectors and drug dogs !!!!
Thank you Brenham police officers there’s more out there selling drugs get them all and maybe there won’t be as much violence and children getting caught up on drugs and crimes .
the more they get caught, the more they do it. they just do it better.-from a bhs student.
You do realize the only reason drugs are tied to crime…? Because they’re illegal.. Catching everyone and putting them in jail for non-violent possession charges has obviously worked out so well, that it’s been 50 plus years in the making, and drugs have only become more and more prevalent. Perhaps we should try a different approach.
You said it yourself.. “MAYBE there won’t be as much violence” ..very strong maybe. For every person arrested there are 10 more to take their place. I’m tired of violence too…it’s nonsensical.
