TWO CHARGED WITH MAIL THEFT IN FAYETTE CO.
Two people are charged with stealing mail from several locations in La Grange.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says it received a call around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday about a suspicious blue truck on Highway 77, just north of La Grange. Responding deputies located and stopped a truck that matched the description.
Inside the truck were 25-year-old Damon William Stewart of Houston and 41-year-old Amanda Jean Campos of Weimar. As Stewart was being searched for weapons, deputies found a “cake” vape pen with THC on his person. A search of the truck revealed a methamphetamine pipe, which Stewart admitted was his.
Deputies also located a large amount of mail containing different names and addresses from the area. Over 15 different addresses were located on the mail collected out of the truck, including locations on Chapparal Road, Post Oak Road, Rocky Acres Lane, FM 153 and North Washington Street.
Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center, where they were charged with state jail felony-level Theft of Mail. The sheriff’s office says other charges may be filed.
At one time theft of mail was a federal offence. I hope that holds true today. I’m glad they were caught. Theft of mail and porch pirating should be treated as similar crimes. Just my opinion.
