Two students with ties to Washington County have earned recognition on behalf of the Elks Lodge.
Brenham High School’s valedictorian for the class of 2023, Grant Mayfield, placed first in in the Texas Elks State Association’s (TESA) Essay Contest and received a $1,000 award.

Mayfield was presented the award by Brenham Elks Lodge #979 Exalted Ruler, Lonnie Tegeler, at the recent TESA State Conference in Dallas.
Meanwhile, Kaitlyn Winkelmann, granddaughter of Brenham Elks Lodge member Norman Winkelmann, received the Elks Grand Lodge Legacy Scholarship for $4,000.
Tegeler gave the award to Cynthia Wysznski, President of the Colorado Elks Association. Wysznski will present the award to Winkelmann, who resides in Colorado.
