ERCOT ISSUES WEATHER WATCH AS EXTREME HEAT CONTINUES

  

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has issued a Weather Watch effective Sunday through Tuesday as high temperatures bring higher demand for electricity.

The Weather Watch advises the public of forecasted conditions that can lead to increased demand.  ERCOT expects grid conditions to be normal, so no immediate action is needed, but operating reserves may be lower.

On Thursday, the state set a new unofficial all-time peak demand record of 81,406 MW.  ERCOT’s 6-day supply and demand dashboard shows the demand record could be broken again next week, but the agency says there is enough capacity to meet that demand. 

A Weather Watch is not a call for conservation, but residents are encouraged to monitor the grid and plan ahead.
