Donations allow the senior center to continue supporting the senior citizens of Washington County and helping to keep them independent, interested and involved in the community.

Blue Bell Creameries kicked off the fundraising drive last week with a contribution of $15,000.

With over 1,500 members, the senior center serves a growing population of multigenerational citizens by providing nutritional meals, social and physical activities, transportation and a safe place of respite.

Officials with the senior center say meal service has increased over 50 percent post-COVID, fitness classes are full with waiting lists, and requests for learning opportunities continue to grow.  Bingo supported by local businesses, along with cards, dominos and other games, are immensely popular.

To contain operating expenses, the center employs a small paid staff with over 60 member-volunteers.  The senior center’s board of directors says it is focused on using every donation in the most effective way possible.

Donations to join the “Champion for Seniors Giving Society” can be made by going to www.seniorcenterbrenham.com.  Contributions can also be made by calling 979-836-6552 or mailing to P.O. Box 401, Brenham, Texas 77834.
