BURTON PANTHERS HAVE TOUGH SCRIMMAGE WITH SHINER
The Burton Panthers know any time they take on the Shiner Comanches it is going to be a tough game. Shiner, who was a Class 2A-Division I Regional Finalist last season, outscored Burton, a Class 2A-Division II State Semifinalist a season ago, three touchdowns to one in their scrimmage on Thursday night.
Burton's lone score came on a touchdown pass from Drayton Oakes to Chad Schubert. Coach Jason Hodde said that they had another chance at a touchdown near the end of the scrimmage, but ran out of time.
Hodde told KWHI that one of the biggest issues was that Shiner had a much larger volume of players, and that caused the Panthers to wear down as the game went on, because Burton had more personnel playing both offense and defense.
Hodde said he knows that they have things to work on, but overall felt like the team battled well against a tough opponent.
The Burton Panthers will open the 2023 season on the road at the Holland Hornets on Thursday, August 24. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm. KWHI is going to broadcast the game live beginning with the pregame at 6:30pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
