The National School Public Relations Association has announced that Hempstead ISD Superintendent Herbert O’Neil has been recognized as a “Superintendent to Watch.”

O’Neil joins 24 superintendents nationwide who were selected for the honor, which recognizes their innovative and effective use of technology to engage and inform the school community, and to expand two-way communication and outreach efforts.

O’Neil said that he is honored to receive the recognition. He and Dr. Lori Rapp from Lewisville ISD were the only two Texas superintendents to be chosen for the recognition.

Under O’Neil’s leadership, Hempstead ISD has undergone a journey, marked by the development and implementation of the five-year strategic plan entitled, “Learning & Leading to Higher Heights.”

According to a press release from Hempstead ISD, O’Neil’s contributions also include fostering a commitment to sustainable facilities by guiding the district through long-range facilities planning, ensuring a foundation for safe and functional schools.

His creation of the 'Bobcat Blueprint' stands as a significant milestone for the district, emphasizing a strategic approach to excellence in education and community engagement within Hempstead ISD.

Additionally, the District said that O’Neil’s innovative approaches to celebrating students, staff, and community members have cultivated a sense of Bobcat pride across the community.
