CITY OF SOMERVILLE LOOKING FOR PUBLIC INPUT ON CITY HALL PROJECT

The City of Somerville is seeking feedback from residents about a project for a new city hall.

During a workshop earlier this month, the Somerville City Council laid out plans to create a citizens committee and schedule a town hall meeting sometime in January.

The committee would assist the council in determining a location for a new city hall that would be built in the future.

Some of the options being considered by the council include rebuilding at the old location at 150 Eighth Street, using city-owned property on Ninth Street, and buying property along Highway 36 and Memory Lane.

At the workshop meeting, City Administrator Danny Segundo said the city will be required by state law to go to the voters for a bond issue for the city hall construction.  However, the city could use some of its reserve funds to help with the project.

In addition to assisting with the city’s plans for a new city hall, the committee will also help the council in choosing roads for consideration for a road project that could begin next fall.

Anyone interested in serving on the committee can call the city at 979-596-1122.
