WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL REVIEW BOARD MEMBERS SOUGHT

  

Applications are being accepted for Washington County residents interested in serving on the Appraisal Review Board (ARB).

The ARB is a group of private citizens authorized to hear appeals and determine protests for property tax purposes.

The board is a separate authoritative body and is not employed by the Washington County Appraisal District.  ARB members are appointed to two-year terms by the local administrative district judge of Washington County.

ARB service runs year round, but is mostly concentrated to the months of May through August.  The ARB receives per diem compensation at the rate of $125 per day.

Texas Property Tax Code outlines specific eligibility requirements. To be considered, an applicant:

  • Must currently reside in Washington County and must have lived here for at least the last two years
  • Must not currently be employed by, or be an officer or director of, the Washington County Appraisal District
  • Must not currently be employed by the State Comptroller of Public Accounts
  • Must not currently be a board member, employee, or officer of any local taxing unit (county, city, school, etc.)
  • Must not be related, by blood or marriage, to anyone who performs appraisals for property tax purposes in Washington County
  • Must not be related, by blood or marriage, to a tax agent paid to represent property owners in Washington County
  • Must not be related, by blood or marriage, to a member of the appraisal district’s board of directors or a member of the ARB
  • Must not have a contract for services with the appraisal district or a local taxing unit
  • Must not have delinquent taxes. This restriction does not apply if the person is paying the delinquent taxes under a payment agreement or has deferred or abated the tax.
  • Must not hold any other paid public office.
