CUBS EDGE MAGNOLIA IN EXTRA INNINGS
Pinch runner Rayne Richard raced home with the winning run on a Magnolia throwing error in the bottom of the 9th inning, giving the Brenham Cubs a 5-4 win at Firemen’s Park Friday night.
The Cubs, who trailed 4-1 in the fourth inning, rallied for the extra-inning win that improved their 19/5A record to 4-0 (11-4, overall).
Dylan Lester, who picked up the win in relief, ripped a one-out double in the 9th. Two intentional walks later, a throwing error by the Bulldogs (10-6/2-2) brought Richard racing home with the winning run.
Sam Gaertner went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning.
Jacob Stegent went 2-2 at the plate for the Cubs with doubles in the second and fourth innings.
Lester (4-0) got the win, tossing one inning of shutout ball. Lester struck out one, walked none and gave up one hit.
Blake Wellmann went the first eight innings, giving up 3 earned runs on nine hits, while striking out eight and walking two.
The Cubs will visit Tomball, Tuesday night at 7:00.
