SOMERVILLE DEFEATS BURTON 42-41 IN OVERTIME

The Somerville Yegua Football Team rallied to defeat the Burton Panthers 42-41 in overtime last (Friday) night in Bryan. It was Somerville's first win over Burton since 2006.

Somerville struck first on a five-yard touchdown run by Keith Crawford in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.

Burton got the scoring started in the second quarter on a fake field goal, which allowed Eli Simank reach the end zone on an 11-yard touchdown run that tied it 7-7.

Panther QB K.D. Patterson put Burton in front on a four-yard touchdown run to make it 14-7. However, the Yeguas would come back on the kickoff. It was fielded by Jayden Young, who flipped it to Crawford, and he returned it the rest of the way for a touchdown to tie it 14-14.

Patterson added a one-yard touchdown run to give the Panthers a 21-14 lead. Crawford would tie on a 70-yard touchdown run to make it 21-21.

Burton went out in front again on a 37-yard touchdown run by Brady Griffin, and Burton led 28-21 at halftime.

In third quarter, Patterson recorded his third touchdown of the night on a 10-yard run to give Burton a 35-21 lead.

Somerville QB Ian Teague started the second half comeback by throwing a 46 yard touchdown pass to Kyle Brooks to cut the deficit to 35-28.

In the fourth quarter, Teague found Crawford on a 26-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 35-35 and send it into overtime.

In the overtime period, Teague scored a rushing touchdown, and Somerville made the extra point to take a 42-35 lead.

Burton scored on a 17-yard touchdown run by Patterson to cut the lead to 42-41. Instead of kicking the extra point to tie the game, and send it to another overtime, the Panthers went for the two point conversion to win it. Unfortunately, Patterson slipped and was sacked on the play to end the game.

With the win, Somerville is now 5-1 on the season, and 3-0 in district. Burton drops to 3-3 overall and 2-1.
