SEALY AND GIDDINGS SENDING RUNNERS TO STATE CROSS COUNTRY MEET

The Sealy High School and Giddings High School Cross Country Teams are sending runners to the UIL State Meet after being among the top finishers at Monday's Regional Meet.

The Regional Meet was held at Kate Barr Ross Park in Huntsville.

For the Boys' 5K run, as a team, Sealy finished fourth overall, while Giddings was fifth overall, and Navasota was 20th. The top four teams advance to state, so Sealy's entire team advanced. The other top finishers were Salado in first place, Burnet, in second, and Huffman Hargrave in third.

Sealy's Gavin Almaguer finished ninth overall individually with a time of 16 minutes, and 13.5 seconds.

For Giddings, while the team didn't quite make it, Tristan Martinez did qualify as an individual with a time of 16 minutes and 35.1 seconds.

For the Girls' two-mile run, as a team, Sealy finished fifth overall, Giddings was seventh, Bellville was ninth, and La Grange was 11th. The top finishing teams that advanced to state were Salado in first, Huffman Hargrave in second, Lorena in third, and Hudson in fourth.

Even though Giddings did not advance as a team, Kaitlin Wilson did make it to the state meet as an individual. She finished with a time of 12 minutes and 47.1 seconds.

The UIL State Cross Country Meet is being held on Friday, November 1, at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock.
