SIX CALLS THURSDAY, ONE EARLY FRIDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.
The Brenham Fire Department was called out six times on Thursday and once this (Friday) morning.
A few minutes after 7:30 a.m. Thursday, units responded to a fire alarm at a home in the 3000 block of Brandenburg Lane. However, proper pass code was given from the alarm company for cancellation, so they returned to service.
Around 7:45 a.m., a gas odor was called in from a home in the 1100 block of Ewing Street. Firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department arrived, and after the fire department checked the area for a leak or smell, it was released from the call by the gas department.
Approaching 9:45 a.m., BFD personnel were dispatched to a crash in the 100 block of Highway 290 West. They found a two-vehicle crash with minor damage and provided traffic control until Brenham police released them from the scene.
Another report of a crash came in at 1 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Stone Street. There, units discovered a two-vehicle crash with one blocking the street. They provided traffic control until both vehicles were removed from the roadway.
Just before 3:45 p.m., Brenham firefighters were joined by the Salem Volunteer Fire Department in response to a grass fire in the 1800 block of Woodward Springs Road. They found a grass fire that started from a brush pile and had gotten out of control. Brenham and Salem units extinguished the grass fire and pile, clearing the scene once all of the fire was out.
At 7 p.m., Brenham units and the Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department received a report of a structure fire in the 3900 block of Old Navasota Road. Meyersville volunteers made location to find it was just a controlled burn.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m. today, Brenham and Meyersville firefighters went out to a possible structure fire in the 900 block of Allen Road. Meyersville arrived first and found fire on the front porch of a trailer house. The two departments put out the fire using handlines and tank water before returning to service.
