BRENHAM CUBETTES GO 3-1 AT CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN TOURNAMENT
The Brenham Cubette Basketball Team went 3-1 at the Cornerstone Christian Schools Tournament over the weekend in San Antonio.
The Cubettes opened the tournament with a 37-35 win over Canyon Lake. Jalaya Pettus had nine points and six rebounds. Yazmine Gaines finished with eight points, five rebounds, three assists, and six steals. Antyiahna Lang added six points and eight rebounds.
Brenham would then beat Incarnate Word 54-43. Lang led the way with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Gaines had 11 points, four assists, and three steals. Carmen McWilliams chipped in with 10 points. J'Tayla Moore pulled down nine rebounds. Janiyah Mathis had seven points and ten rebounds. Pettus finished with six points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
The Cubettes went on to defeat Lockhart 64-18. Lang led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Mathis had 12 points, six rebounds, and five steals. Gaines just missed a triple-double with 11 points, seven assists, and nine steals.
However, the host team, Cornerstone Christian, beat Brenham 48-34 to prevent them from sweeping the tournament. Mathis led the Cubettes in scoring with 18 points. Lang finished with nine rebounds. Gaines had five points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
The Cubettes are now 5-4 on the season. They are scheduled to be back in action this (Monday) afternoon with a 12 noon game against Bellaire at the Brenham High School Gym.
