LCRA OPENING COMMUNITY GRANT APPLICATIONS JAN. 1

  

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) will soon open applications for its Community Development Partnership Program.

Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply for grants to support projects in their towns and communities.  The application period opens on January 1^st and continues through midnight on January 31^st. 

Eligible projects include improvements to fire stations, community centers, sports fields, libraries and other facilities, as well as providing updated gear and equipment for emergency responders.

Groups that are able to apply include volunteer fire departments, emergency responders, local governments, schools, libraries, civic groups, museums and other tax-exempt nonprofits.  Grants are not available to individuals, for-profit entities, professional associations, social service projects or limited-use facilities.

Applicants requesting more than $5,000 in grant funding must provide matching funds of at least 20 percent of the total project cost.  Most grants are for $25,000 or less, but several grants of up to $50,000 are awarded every grant cycle.

Recently, the LCRA awarded over $890,000 in grants to support community projects across its wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas.  Locally, those projects included grants to add new drainage spouts, window shades and tinting at the Brenham Heritage Museum; a new lighting system in the Brenham High School Theater; an emergency generator for the Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department; and battery-powered vehicle extrication rescue tools for the Prairie Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
