TEXAS SENATE ADJOURNS IN MEMORY OF FALLEN NAVASOTA POLICE SERGEANT
The Texas Senate ended its session on Tuesday in remembrance of Navasota Police Sergeant Mark Butler, who was killed in the line of duty on January 15th.
State Senator Lois Kolkhorst offered comments on the Senate floor in honor of Sergeant Mark Allen Butler, who drove into the path of a wrong-way driver that police say was fleeing arrest on Highway 6 after attempting to cash a fraudulent check at a bank in College Station. Both Butler and the suspect died.
Kolkhorst recalled a memory that Butler’s family shared with her about how they knew from an early age that he would dedicate his life to serving others.
Butler joined the Navasota Police Department in June 2021 after having served 10 years in the United States Army, including two tours in Germany and Afghanistan. He was promoted to patrol sergeant in October.
Funeral services for Butler were held this past Friday in College Station.
Senators also paid tribute on Tuesday to fallen Brazoria County Deputy Jesus Vargas, who was shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant on January 15th.
