FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF WARNING OF A PHONE SCAM
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek is reporting that his office is once again receiving several scam reports.
According to Korenek, someone is calling citizens of Fayette County and claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office.
The scammers are stating that the person has warrants for their arrest and that they are collecting fees over the phone to get rid of the warrants.
These calls appear to come from the Sheriff Office’s actual phone number.
Korenek said these scammers have the ability to clone phone numbers. They are also using actual names of Fayette County Sheriff’s Office employees as well.
Please note this is not a normal practice and the Sheriff’s Office will not notify anyone via phone about warrants, or to collect any fees.
Residents are advised to never give money, gift cards, any other monetary funds, or bank account information over the telephone.
Korenek added that if you ever have any doubt about a phone call you receive, hang up and dial them directly at 979-968-5856 or come up the Sheriff’s Office in person.
