Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
Blinn College softball opened Region XIV South play on the road Monday and settled for a doubleheader split with Coastal bend College.
The Buccaneers dropped the opener of the twin bill 5-1 before bouncing back for a 7-1 win in game two.
Blinn is now 4-14 overall and 1-1 in region play.
In game one, the two teams played to a scoreless tie after three innings before the Cougars got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Bucs got one back in the top of the fifth when freshman Halle Scheel drove in fellow freshman Kacie Dudensing with a sacrifice fly.
Coastal Bend tacked on two more runs in the home half of the inning.
Blinn freshman Brynn Gallamore was the pitcher of record after working four innings of two-hit ball. She allowed three runs (one earned), walked two, and struck out four.
The Bucs' offense finished with eight hits, including a 3-for-3 game for Dudensing and two hits for sophomore Bailey Boetjer.
In game two, the runs again came at a premium early as Blinn and Coastal Bend were locked in a 1-1 tie after four.
The Bucs broke things open with a six-run fifth-inning to put the game away.
Boetjer accounted for the winning runs when she launched a two-run home run to left field. Freshman Madysen Taylor added an RBI single that scored Dudensing, and sophomore Darian DeLeon hit a ground ball single that drove in Taylor and Scheel.
Blinn finished with nine hits, including a pair for DeLeon and Taylor.
In the pitcher's circle, sophomore Paige Bunting had her best start of the year. She tossed a four-hit complete game while allowing one earned run and two walks with nine punchouts.
Up next, Blinn travels to Alvin Community College for a South doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday (tomorrow) in Alvin.
