CUBS OPEN DAY TWO OF ALUMNI TOURNAMENT WITH WIN OVER MAGNOLIA

In a battle of former district foes, the Brenham Cub Baseball Team defeated Magnolia 8-2 this (Friday) morning to open up day two of the Brenham Alumni Tournament.

Dawson Keim went the distance to get the win. Over six innings pitched, he scattered six hits, two earned runs, two walks, and struck out eight.

Magnolia jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a solo home run by Keegan Chavez and an RBI single by Karson Dupre. They would not touch home plate the rest of the game.

The Cubs came back with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Brady Rau was hit by a pitch, Caleb Maurer walked and Dalton Hart singled to load the bases. Barrett Kohring drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in Rau with the first run of the game. Drake Bentke tied the game with a sacrifice fly that scored Maurer. Landry Mendoza put Brenham in front 3-2 with an RBI single to score Hart.

The Cubs added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rau walked, and then Caleb Maurer bunted him to second. Rau would then score on an RBI single by Hart to increase the Brenham lead over the Bulldogs to 4-2.

In the fifth inning, the Cubs would get the biggest blow of the day. Luke Hardy walked, Blaine Bartlett singled, and Caleb Maurer was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hart then cleared them all off with a grand slam over the right field fence to make it 8-2 Brenham.

Next up, the Cubs will face another former district foe in Magnolia West tonight (Friday) at 7:30pm at Fireman's park. They are then going to wrap up the tournament tomorrow (Saturday) at 3pm against St. Thomas (2:35pm pregame on KWHI).
