FIRE & ICE COOK-OFF APRIL 4-5 IN INDEPENDENCE

  

Registration has opened for the annual Fire & Ice Cook-off in Independence.

Hosted by Independence Community Events, the event will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, on the Independence town square.

Teams will participate in various cook-off competitions like brisket, chicken, ribs, beans, chef’s choice, steak shootout and margaritas. 

The first place winner in the steak shootout will win $1,000, sponsored by Southern Star Trucking and Brenham Iron Works.  Second place will receive $500, sponsored by Cattleman’s Brenham Livestock Auction.  Third place will win $250, sponsored by Schulte Cattle Company.  Cash prizes and trophies will also be presented to the winners of the other categories.

Team registration for chicken, ribs, brisket and beans is $100 before March 22^nd and goes up to $125 after that date.  Entry is $30 for the steak shootout, $25 for chef’s choice and $20 for margaritas.

Each year, proceeds from the Fire & Ice Cook-off support continued renovations and maintenance at the old Independence school house.
