CUBETTE OFFENSE EXPLODES FOR A 16-6 WIN OVER A&M CONSOLIDATED
On Teacher Appreciation Night, the Brenham Cubette Softball Team showed their favorite teachers what they are capable of with a 16-6 run-rule victory over the A&M Consolidated Lady Tigers.
A&M Consolidated jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.
Brenham got one of the runs back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by McKenzie Tiemann that scored Avery Maurer to make it a 2-1 lead for the Lady Tigers.
A&M Consolidated expanded their lead with four runs in the top of the third inning to make it 6-1.
However, in the bottom of the third inning, Brenham would have the first of their two big innings on the night. The Cubettes would send 12 batters to the plate and score eight runs. Kinley Antkowiak and Kylie Baker would single and Aldyn Jaks walked to load the bases. Kyla Garcia was brought in to courtesy run for Baker. Harper Castillo walked with the bases loaded to score Antkowiak. Then, Stella Landry was hit by a pitch, which allowed Garcia to score, and cut the lead in half to make it 6-3.
Sloan Tucker came in to courtesy run for Landry. Laityn Davis reached on a fielder's choice. Maurer singled home Castillo to cut the lead to 6-4. Sarah Mabie drew a bases loaded walk, which allowed Tucker to score and make it a one-run game 6-5.
McKenzie Tiemann tied it 6-6 with a sacrifice fly that brought home Davis. Antkowiak followed with a two-run double that scored Maurer and Mabie to give Brenham their first lead of the game 8-6. Baker singled home Antkowiak to increase the Cubette lead to 9-6.
Brenham then finished it off with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to enforce the mercy rule. Jaks reached on an error, and Castillo and Landry each reached on a fielder's choice. Davis would then clear the bases with a three-run double to give the Cubettes a 12-6 advantage.
Maurer, Mabie, and Tiemann drew three straight walks to re-load the bases. Antkowiak would then clear them off with another three-run double. Castillo later walked it off with an RBI single to score Antkowiak, and make it 16-6 Brenham.
Baker got the win in the circle with four scoreless innings of relief allowing only one hit and one walk, while striking out seven. The Cubettes improve to 11-7 overall and are now 2-2 in district.
Next up, they will travel to Bryan Rudder on Friday at 6:30pm.
