STUDENTS GET HANDS-ON WITH ENGINEERING & ROBOTICS AT BLINN COLLEGE STEM SUMMER CAMP

Blinn College hosted its first-ever summer camp to provide middle school students the chance to learn more about engineering and robotics.

robot that can be programmed to perform various
tasks, during Blinn College's STEM Summer Camp
on Thursday.

The two-day STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) camp concluded today (Thursday) at the Brenham Campus’ Science, Technology, Engineering, and Innovation Building.  Fifteen students took part in projects like designing custom 3-D printed models, building solar and battery-powered cars, and programming table-top robots to perform tasks like writing, drawing and handling blocks.

Jennifar Aktar, program coordinator for the engineering technology department, said students have been able to apply themselves in team activities and gain skills that will prove beneficial as they progress into high school and the workforce.

Aktar said the College received an overwhelming number of responses for the camp, but it wanted to limit the number of participants for the first installment.  She said she hopes to increase that number as the College explores new ideas for future camps.
