GUIDRY’S RECORD NIGHT LEADS CUBS TO WIN OVER BRYAN
Behind a record setting night from WR Chris Guidry, the Brenham Cub Football Team defeated the Bryan Vikings 49-22.
Guidry finished the game with 12 catches for 214 yards and four touchdowns. The 12 catches are a school record for most receptions in one game. The previous record was James Homan, who had 11 receptions against Texas City in the 2013 playoffs.
He also broke Brandon Collins' school record for most receiving yards in a career. Collins had 1,743 yards, and with last (Friday) night's performance, Guidry now has 1,884 career receiving yards.
The Cubs got the scoring started in the first quarter with Xyran Upshaw finding Cartelle Brown on an 88-yard touchdown pass to give Brenham the early 7-0 lead.
Guidry would then start his portion of the show with three straight touchdown catches, a 6-yarder, a 23-yarder, and a 51-yarder. The Cubs took a 28-8 lead into the locker room at half time.
In the third quarter, both teams traded touchdowns. Brenham's score came on a 52-yard run by C.J. Glover. The Cubs took a 35-15 lead into the fourth quarter.
Guidry found the end zone two more times. The first came on a 33-yard touchdown run, while the other came on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Upshaw.
Bleu Cienega was a perfect 7 for 7 on his extra points.
With the win, the Cubs are now 3-0 on the season. Next Friday, they will be heading to Killeen to take on the Kangaroos at 7pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:30pm.
