WITT’S NO-HITTER LEADS PANTHER BASEBALL TO A WIN OVER WEIMAR
Behind a gem from starting pitcher Tyler Witt, and a big ten-run fifth inning, the Burton Panther Baseball Team opened their season with a 16-0 shutout win over the Weimar Wildcats.
Witt threw a no-hitter, and struck out ten batters over five innings of work. to get the win.
Burton got it started in the top of the first with three runs. Logun Tosta reached on a one-out double, and then, Isaac Matthies singled him home with the first run of the game. Eli Jaeger singled to move Matthies over. Matthies then scored run number two on an RBI single by Matthew Roemer, and Jaeger scored on an RBI single by Carter Prigge.
The score remained 3-0 Panthers until the top of the third inning. Jaeger led the inning off with a double, and took third on a wild pitch. He would then come home on an RBI groundout by Braydon Martin. Prigge reached on a single, and later came around to score on an error to make it 5-0.
Burton tacked on an insurance run in the fourth. Tosta doubled, moved to third on a groundout by Matthies, and scored on an additional groundout by Jaeger, which increased the lead to 6-0.
The Panthers blew the game open in the top of the fifth inning with a 10-run frame. Prigge led it off with a single, Coy Gurka walked, and Easton Witt reached on a bunt single. Tyler Witt reached on an error that allowed Prigge to score. Tosta followed with his third double of the day to bring home Gurka and Easton Witt. Tyler Witt later scored on a passed ball, which made it 11-0.
Burton wasn't done scoring though. Matthies doubled in Tosta, and then Jaeger singled home Matthies. The Panthers then load the bases after Martin singles, and Roemer is hit by a pitch. Gurka singled home Jaeger. Martin later scored on an RBI single by Easton Witt. Roemer came in for another run on a passed ball. Archer Fuller drew a walk that scored Gurka to increase the lead to 16-0.
Tyler Witt then struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth to preserve the win.
Next up, Burton will take part in the Schulenburg Tournament, which runs Thursday-Saturday.
