GIDDINGS FOOTBALL PREVIEW

The Giddings Buffaloes are continuing with the rebuilding process as they approach the start of the 2026 season. Head Coach Luke Hobbs enters his second season in hopes of turning the program around.

Last year, Giddings finished 2-8 overall, and 0-5 in district. The last time Giddings had a winning season was in 2020, when they finished 8-4.

UIL Realignment moved the Buffaloes to District 14-4A Division II where they will face all new district opponents, and they will also log a lot more travel miles. Their next district consists of Austin Achieve, Austin Eastside, Lago Vista, Manor New Tech, and Wimberley.

According to Dave Campbell's Texas Football, Wimberley is projected to win district, and they are ranked in the preseason poll as #8 in the state.

Rounding out the district are Lago Vista at #2, Manor New Tech at #3, Austin Eastside at #4, Giddings is at #5, and Austin Achieve at #6.

The Buffaloes return three starters on offense, and four on defense. They are counting on players that were on the sub-varsity levels last season to develop quickly and fill the holes on both sides of the ball.

Corbin Medack was the starting QB last season. Last year, he threw for 1,261 yards and eight touchdowns. He also carried the ball 122 times for 506 yards and seven touchdowns. DCTX reports that Giddings plans to use him more at RB on offense this upcoming season.

Peyton Grimm is their leading returning receiver. Last season, he had 44 receptions for 446 yards, and two touchdowns.

Returning to lead the defense is LB Bristol Boyd, who finished with a team high with 86 tackles last season. LB Conner Ray also returns. He was second on the team with 71 tackles, and he led the team with two interceptions.

Giddings will host Navasota in a scrimmage this Thursday, and they will then travel to Hallettsville for a second scrimmage next week.

The Buffaloes open the season at home with a game against Rockdale on Friday, August 28, at 7:30pm.
