GRIMES COUNTY PUTS BURN BAN INTO PLACE

  

Grimes County becomes the first governmental entity in the area to adopt a burn ban due to the recent hot and dry weather conditions.

The Commissioners Court approved the ban at this (Wednesday) morning’s meeting.

The ban is into effect for all outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Grimes County for 90 days, but could be lifted sooner if weather conditions were to change.

According to the order, the ban does not include activities that are related to public health and safety that are authorized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The exceptions include:

1. Firefighter training
2. Public utility, natural gas pipeline, or mining operations
3. Planting or harvesting of agricultural crops
4. Burns that are conducted by the prescribed burn manager under the Natural Resources Code, and meet its standards
5. Prohibited outdoor burning also does not include food preparation in barbecue grills, or containerized cooking appliances operated in a safe manner.

171 of the 254 counties in Texas are currently under a burn ban.
