ARREST MADE AFTER A HIGH-SPEED CHASE IN GRIMES COUNTY

  

A Cypress man was arrested on Monday after leading Grimes County Law Enforcement on a high-speed chase.

Just after 9:30am, Deputy Zack Pavlock of the Grimes County Precinct 3 & 4 Constable’s Office was conducting stationary patrol in the 4200 block of State Highway 105, just east of the Navasota city limits, when he observed a motorcycle traveling at a speed in excess of 100 miles per hour.

As he attempted to catch up with the motorcycle, Deputy Pavlock said he  observed the operator engaging in multiple dangerous driving behaviors, including passing vehicles within a designated no-passing zone and lane-splitting between vehicles.

A vehicle pursuit was initiated as the motorcycle continued southbound on State Highway 249. During the pursuit, the motorcycle reached speeds of approximately 140 miles per hour or greater. The operator, later identified as Ashton Walters, continued to recklessly maneuver through traffic, passing vehicles and splitting lanes at extremely dangerous speeds.

The pursuit continued southbound on Highway 249 into Montgomery County.

Just south of Decker Prairie Road, Montgomery County Precinct 5 personnel, who were called to assist, were able to safely control and stop the normal flow of traffic ahead of the motorcycle. With traffic no longer moving freely, Walters ultimately stopped the motorcycle and was taken into custody without further incident.

Walters was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle, a third-degree felony.
