FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE REPORTING MORE PHONE SCAMS

  

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving more reports of phone scams in the area.  

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the phone scam involves an individual claiming to be “Deputy Martin” with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller may appear to be calling from the Sheriff’s Office, because scammers are able to “spoof” or clone their phone number, making it appear legitimate on caller ID.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office stated they will never call you and demand or request money over the phone.

They advise that you do not provide payment information, banking information, gift cards, or other personal financial information to these callers.

If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be with their office, hang up, and contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office directly at 979-968-5856 to verify the call.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to share this information with friends and family, especially those who may be more vulnerable to telephone scams.
